Care for Your Photocopier
Your photocopier is a major player when it comes to your day-to-day office working and it’s when it doesn’t work that you realise how important it is.
While we offer a printer repair service (and with our photocopier rentals the maintenance is included), it makes sense to have a little in-house maintenance plan. This will save you time so you don’t have to wait for a repair engineer to come to you (as you may need urgent assistance).
Check the level of your toner about twice a week, toner is the powered mixture in the cartridges that produce the copies you make. When the cartridges begin to empty, the paper you’re printing will become streaky.
We advise you replace the cartridge as soon as possible so the best practice is to keep a supply on hand, so you aren’t taxing your printer’s mechanisms.
As well as keeping stocked on your toner, keep your paper stocked to. The one rule we can’t stress enough is when you have a paper jam, don’t yank it out!
By dragging at the paper, you can easily damage the machine, causing longer delays for your next important printout. It’s sounds dull but always follow the instructions, whether there be a manual or a display screen.
It’s important you wipe down the outside of your copier around once a week, dust build-up can really affect its operation. Use a paper towel and gently remove the debris that collects. This can prevent a fault later down the line.
Also make sure the screen that scans your documents is kept clean. It can become dusty and worn, so make sure it is free from dust and wear. There are several solutions you can buy to maintain this screen: consult either the manual or your technician (that would be us then).
Of course any questions you have about copiers, give us a call and if we don’t know the answer straight away we probably know someone who does!
